Derek is a registered Professional Technologist with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) with forty-five years’ experience in the industrial and mining industry. He has worked with large-scale consulting houses such as DRA Projects (Pty) Ltd, Hatch, Holley and Associates and Read, Swartman & Voight (Pty) Ltd. Derek has been the Lead and responsible engineer on numerous mining and process plant projects. He has extensive experience in the engineering and design of structures related to the mining industry including shaft headgears, material handling systems, decline conveyors, conveyances, equipping platforms, stage platforms, shaft steelwork, compensating shaft steelwork, underground installations, and dynamic analyses of shaft systems. Furthermore, he has vast experience in conducting structural steel inspections and audits for various Shaft Projects in Africa
